How do you choose a professional painter?

The safest and most reliable source for hiring a pro is through a friend giving you a referral. Who do you know that had work done recently? Ask them about their experience, what they liked about the work, the level of communication about expectations, cleanliness, etc. Testimonials and referrals are an indicator that his work is satisfactory and that homeowners are comfortable referring him to their neighbors, friends, and family.

The second source for a professional painter is through the Better Business Bureau. Use the internet in conjunction with the Yellow Pages to learn about a company before you ask them to come out, measure the room, and submit an estimate. Pick three or four candidates, do your due diligence, then invite three or four to submit estimates.

As each candidate arrives, take a look at the vehicles while each pro is writing up an estimate. Is there paint running down the sides and tailgate of the truck?
